Possible Solution to Macbook Power Supply Problems
Over the weekend my Macbook power supply failed. This is the second power supply that has failed me. A quick search of the Internet revealed that I’m not the only one experiencing this problem. After doing a little investigating I think I may have found the solution as to why the power plugs are failing. If you look at the picture on the left, you’ll notice that their are four spring loaded pins that connect to the computer’s power port and supply power to the Macbook. I’ve noticed that over time dirt and grim will build up on the power connector. I believe that some of the dirt and grim have have made it’s way into the pins of the power cord that prevents them from making proper contact with the contacts in the power connector. I’ve observed that one of my pins is lower than the others, and when I plug the computer in it says that it is connected but not charging. This was the same exact behavior of the last power cable I had that failed on me. To solve my problem, I went ahead and bought a new power adaptor, but I think I’m going to try and figure out a way to fix the broken power connector. In the mean time I guess the only advise I can give is to keep your power connector clean of dirt and grim.
